The University of Cambridge Athlete Performance Programme (UCAPP) helps student athletes to find a balance to combine academic and sporting excellence, supporting them to take their talent to the highest possible level.
University of Cambridge Athlete Performance Programme annual report 2025
This report showcases the achievements of our students, from University competitions to world championships, and highlights how UCAPP has played an integral part in making it all possible.
It tailors’ strength and condition programmes, physiotherapy, sports nutrition, sport psychology and lifestyle management, as well as providing access to gym and sports facilities, to dovetail with any individual, team or national team plans.
Students are selected from a diverse range of sports, from athletics to rowing, from orienteering to racketlon, from kitefoiling to modern pentathlon, and from fencing to powerlifting.
James Ackland was crowned British champion in sprint orienteering, Anant Gupta helped Great Britain earn podium places at the Racketlon World Championships, Jan Helmich won Rowing World Cup gold medals, Will Lowden was first at the National Team Time Trial Championships and Freya Moody earned a first international lacrosse call-up for England.
Niamh Bridson Hubbard, Poppy Craig-McFeely and Bea Wood helped Cambridge to create history by winning the British Universities & Colleges Sport Cross Country Championships for the first time. Poppy was also selected to race for Great Britain at the European Cross Country Championships, where she helped the team win gold.
Sophie Rennie represented Great Britain in the first kitefoiling event of the Los Angeles Olympic cycle, and Ryan Santos secured a contract with USA Rugby after helping Cambridge University RUFC to Varsity Match glory.
We take great pride in our student athlete achievements especially when combining their sporting prowess with a world class degree and these are just a few of the highlights of the brilliant sports men and women at the University of Cambridge.
