College Homerton Entry year 2024 Course Mathematics PGCE Sport Powerlifting
The Homerton College student became the highest-ranked lifter in the history of the club after some impressive performances across the disciplines.
At the Southern Qualifier, he lifted 750kg in the under-83kg weight class, and this comprised a 267.5kg squat (a 7.5kg personal best), a 145kg bench press and a 337.5kg deadlift.
The deadlift was 20kg heavier than his previous best of 317.5kg, which still stands as both the British University and FISU University World Record.
He added 32.5kg to his previous best performance from the 2024 FISU University World Championships, achieving an IPF GL Points score of 103.88, the highest ever recorded by a CUPLC student. The performance at the Southern Qualifier saw Chinedum break multiple club records, including a six-year-old CUPLC total record.
Chinedum said: “This year I was unfortunately plagued with injuries, most notably patella tendinitis which significantly impacted my squat. UCAPP provided five free physiotherapy sessions where I worked with Ryan Newcombe from Physioteq.
"Over the course of these sessions, Ryan gave me key exercises to rehab and strengthen my knee and after a few months, got me squatting with relatively low discomfort.
“In July 2025, I was able to hit a personal best squat of 267.5kg! “UCAPP also gave me free membership to the University Sports Centre where I trained four times a week, perfecting my craft.”

Future goals and targets:
- Move up to the U93kg weight class and represent Great Britain at international level.
