Niamh Bridson Hubbard has been able to turn a near-miss into a fruitful athletic season.
College Magdalene Entry year 2016 Course PhD in Sociology Sport Cross Country/Athletics
It was a frustrating start for the Magdalene College student as she was seventh at the European Cross Country Trials, just one place away from earning a spot on the Great Britain squad for the European Championships.
However, Niamh was able to turn that into motivation, and compete in her final Varsity Cross Country competition – winning the race by 45 seconds over the four-mile course.
After Christmas, she led home the Cambridge team the at BUCS Cross Country – the first time Cambridge has ever won the event.
Niamh then finished seventh at the BUCS 5,000m championships and has run a personal best of 9min 4.81sec over 3,000m.
Future goals and targets:
- Represent GB at the European Cross Country Championships 2025
- Medal at the National Cross Country Championships 2026
- Run some new PBs on the track
