Rudi Bruijn-Yard earned international recognition during the past academic year.

The Downing College student represented Great Britain at Senior World Cups in Bern and Paris, the Challenge Monal were he finished in the top 60 per cent of athletes, and also Under-23 European Fencing Confederation events in Colmar and Luxembourg.

Rudi was also selected for but unable to attend grand prixs in Vancouver, Doha and Bogota, and world cups in Heidenheim and Marrakech.

On the domestic front, he was 10th at both the Under-23 National Championships and London International Open, 11th at the BUCS National Championships, 23rd at the British Senior Nationals and second at the Cambridge Open.

At the Modern Pentathlon Varsity Match, Rudi was second in the individual event and helped Cambridge to team victory.

“UCAPP has been an invaluable asset to support my sporting performance this year,” said Rudi.

“As I have a very intense competition calendar, the S&C team, nutritionist and physiotherapists make sure that I am always primed for each event so that I van perform at the top of my game!”

Future goals and targets:

  • Represent Great Britain at the World Cup finals this year (selections in August, competition in September)
  • Gold medals for Cambridge at my final BUCS and Varsity matches in 2025.
  • Domestic senior medals at Jan Kjellstrom and British Championships next year.
  • Represent Great Britain at next year’s World Championships in Finland.
